- Bed bug bites are itchy, raised dots. Sometimes the skin around it will welt or even break out in hives. Some people have a more severe reaction, like developing a rash or infection. If there are bed bugs, you will wake up with new bite marks in the morning.
- Bed bugs are red-brown, flat, wingless insects. Look for them in the sheets, the seams on the mattress, and pillowcases. You may also find small white eggs or white larvae. Sometimes there will be small stains on sheets, this could be the bugs’ fecal matter. Check the headboard and legs of the bed and other furniture in the room.
- The infested area may have a sweet but musty odor.
